Why Come To Grand Forks?

The town of Grand Forks is situated in the Boundary Country; an East-West valley of Beautiful British Columbia, which borders USA to the South and Alberta to the East.

Grand Forks is rich in history and is a landscape of natural wonders. It is a land of fertile fields, lush valleys, lakes, rivers and mountains. You’ll find unlimited adventure, friendly people, outdoor recreation, hearty food, events and celebrations abound. It is located between the Okanagan Valley and the Kootenays.

This central location means that we are only a couple of hours drive from two major centres; Spokane, WA and Kelowna, BC. The closest regional airport is only a 1-hour drive to Castlegar or just a little over 2 hours either to the Kelowna or the Spokane International airports.

The downtown core offers quaint cafes where one can meet friends for coffee or lunch or to play some board games at the Board Room Café!  It also has two beautiful Parks and a newly built Water Park where children can play and cool off in the summer.

There are two majestic rivers; the Kettle and the Granby and countless beaches to cool off in the summer. Christina Lake, BC’s Warmest Tree-Lined Lake, is a 15-minute drive away where there are beautiful beaches to swim, canoe, kayak, ski, or fish! Grand Forks got its name from the two rivers that join into one in the downtown core; forming what looks like a two pronged fork!

There is plenty of sunshine in our valley, with four full seasons and moderate temperatures (some say this is the best climate in Canada)! Grand Forks is often referred to as the Sunshine Valley!

Spring and Fall are perfect for hikes or to bike along the Dewdney and Kettle River trails. You can also explore the Kettle Valley Rail portion of the Great Trail (formerly the Trans Canada Trail). Cascade Falls is another great area to explore. It is located just south of Christina Lake. This 31 m (100 ft) cascading waterfall has quite a history behind it. Long ago it was a meeting place and trading ground for First Nations people and a great source for fishing. In the early 1800s a state-of-the-art hydro project was built here.

In the winter, discover our winter wonderland on snowshoes, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, downhill skiing and snowboarding, just minutes away at the Phoenix ski hill.

All this and so much more is yours to explore in Grand Forks, British Columbia, Canada.
